Battle of the Burger was the awesome event sponsored by Amstel Light that offered unlimited Amstel Light, Strongbow and of course, juicy burger “samples” from some of Chicago’s top burger restaurants!Nine burger shops battled it out on a rare and gorgeous Chicago evening at Howells and Hood. The smoke from the grills billowed everywhere as everyone milled about munching on burgers while cooks and servers continued to advertise their goods. In exchange for an exceptionally delicious burger, consumers would place a token into that restaurant’s voting box.
Throughout the night, three burgers really stood out to me, and I would gladly return to these restaurants to see what else they have to offer:
- Edzo’s Burger Shop: The Spicy Sconne Burger – This burger was simple but elevated with a spicy cheese spread that probably led it to be the winning burger of the night! Eddie definitely makes some of my favorite burgers in the City, not to mention the grilled cheese sandwich that is grilled again in cheese! If you go to the shop (which you definitely should), milkshakes are an absolute must! With a pint of ice cream, each milkshake is rich and luscious.
- Lindy’s Restaurant and Marina: Chicago-style Ham-dogger – This was my first burger of the night, and it really blew me away not by the contents of the burger but by the bun. It was an eggy bun that had been grilled to perfection. Perhaps the secret to a savory bun is the amount of grease it soaks up!
- Trax Tavern and Grill: Smoky and Sweet Monster Burger – This burger is true to its name, with smoky meats and a sweet sauce. But best of all, this burger contained one of my favorite burger ingredients: a fried egg. The restaurant ratings are a bit iffy, but I would really like to get over there and give it a try!
